The 1975 UK Wish You Were Here on Harvest SHVL 814 was famously shipped in opaque black shrink-wrap with a printed sticker showing the mechanical-handshake robots, concealing the burning-man cover. A complete original includes the postcard insert and the black inner sleeve, and the sleeve itself shows the four-elements imagery by Hipgnosis. The label is the Harvest design with EMI rim text and the correct matrix etchings.
Matrix / Runout
UK firsts carry SHVL 814 A-2 / B-2 hand-etched matrices, frequently with 'A Porky Prime Cut' signatures from George Peckham. Counterfeits use uniform typeset matrices and lack the black shrink and sticker.
3 Tells That Reveal a Fake
- 1
The black shrink and robot-handshake sticker are missing — almost all genuine fakes are unwrapped, whereas the original was sold sealed in black film with the sticker.
- 2
The postcard insert (diver in the lake) is absent or a glossy modern reproduction rather than the original matte card.
- 3
The runout is machine-typeset rather than hand-etched; genuine UK cuts show hand-scribed SHVL 814 matrices, sometimes with 'A Porky Prime Cut'.
